What does "any level above basic" mean? There is no clear classification of basic in terms of quality. Indeed, it is often at least as high quality as any other event, and normally better than Intermediate.
On the A/BCD distinction, I agree with Robin. Be cannon fodder, and then accept the opposite discipline cannon fodder in your own discipline.
Btw - I don't think it's always clear that BCD team dancers may dance A opens if they want. I never realised this, and so entered BCD once when I would have liked to have entered A (I didn't do all that well in BCD, but was a cocky little s***).
