What I have in mind wouldn't involve just creating the system from scratch with no consultation, but commissioning someone to create a system for scrutineering university competitions (relying on a rules-based workflow so that we can have multiple scoring systems, and configured to handle all existing systems, including the proposed new IVDC format). This should include an electronic feed as described above. If someone in Germany has already done it (and it's so obvious I'd be surprised if someone in the world hasn't already thought of it) then that would be great. The advantage of it would be that it would save on needing a scrutineer at all, so we also wouldn't need to worry about inflexible professional scrutineers.

I would recommend that the creators of the system worked in consultation with a number of scrutineers, judges and other dancesport professionals to make sure the system does what it needs to.

IVDA could commission such a venture if someone could create it, as it would be a sound investment (PE ratio of 10 if not ever hired out to other people). IVDA could then hire it out to other competitions at a reasonable rate to recoup the money.

If there is anyone reading the board who thinks they could construct the system (and I'm sure there must be some engineers out there who could), I wonder if they'd be interested in bidding for the project?

If anyone is interested, it would probably be worth emailing me to let me know, and coming to the IVDA meeting this weekend. I think we should discuss then whether this is something worh moving forward with.
