Subject: Well, what an evening!...First Night Of Current Tour Review ( From Splinters )

Weller and the rest of the band were really up for it and having a
great time. Weller was very relaxed and interacting quite a lot with
the crowd - even flirting with some of the girls right at the front by
pointing at them when he sang Make It Alright!

The band before was truly shocking! Let me qualify a little - it's
always hard being a support band coz the bottom line is no one's there
to see you but, and I'm a fairly chilled person usually, this lot
sucked! They were called Aziz or something like that. It was a two
piece with one geezer playing whining guitar and (I'm not kidding
here) thought it was a great party piece to unplug his guitar and bang
its head with the plug "anyone like Drum 'n' Bass?" and another bloke
on bongos wearing the most bizarre pointy hat and chucking his head
around so much it was like Noddy on acid! Each time they finished
a 'song' the appreciative audience combined comments were: "Fuck Off"
and "Where's Weller?"

Just to smooth things over, the guitarist shouted "If you think you
can do better, fucking come up here and have a go". The bouncers got
involved at this point ;-))) They were meant to be on for 30 minutes.
They made 23. Nuf said.

Onto the main event: our man was outstanding. There was a fantastic
atmosphere at the front. The balcony section was very quiet for a
while but half way through was up and at it like everyone downstairs.

PW said several times that they hadn't rehearsed and later said, "it's
true, we really haven't rehearsed!"

They pretty much followed the set list (I have a copy, and a plectrum
so na, na, ne, na, na!) but didn't play Butterflies in the end.

[> I don't post much (altho Often read this board)but felt it right to say that Aziz is a great bloke and apart from being part of Ian Brown's band and actually recording a tune with Paul (Middle Road) he surely didn't deserve such heckling?anyway hopefully catch up at some future gigs y'all -- Lordy Moose, 01:03:03 11/16/06 Thu
