Subject: A Request to my RAW friends - Walk to d'Feet ALS

Dear RAW Friends,

I�m writing to you to request your help or participation in an event that has become very personal to me and my family. In June of this year, my bother-in-law, Charlie Bruce, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is a rare and very debilitating, degenerative, neuromuscular disease, often resulting in paralysis and death within a few years. Needless to say, the diagnosis has been a shock to our family.

In our efforts to support Charlie and fight this disease, we need to do everything that we can to raise funds for research, support, and hopefully, an eventual cure for ALS. We have been fortunate to learn of the ALSA organization which has an amazing support network and is dedicated to the fight against ALS. Their aim is to help support ALS patients and families, provide research funds to find a cure, and promote public awareness for this rare and often overlooked disease. The ALSA organization, (http://www.alsanorthtexas.org/Home.htm) will be holding a 5K �Walk to d�Feet ALS� on Sunday, October 12th at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. This is a national fundraiser hosted in many cities that helped raise over $6 million in 2002.

Our family is forming a team to participate in the �Walk to d�Feet ALS� on October 12 and we hope that you can join and/or sponsor us as we walk in Charlie�s honor. We will call ourselves "Charlie's Champions�! There is no registration fee for this event, but donations are appreciated. If you cannot participate in the walk, but still want to help, you can sponsor a walker with a donation. You can pre-register for this event OR sponsor a walker at http://www.alsanorthtexas.org/Walk/Walk%20DFW.htm.
