Subject: Vote on Sept 13

Just to get the word out; there IS actually an election on September 13, the same day as the Protectors of Freedom race. Early voting will also be available. One issue that should be important to anyone who ever has or will have to see doctors is that of Amendment # 12 on the ballot, "concerning civil lawsuits against doctors and healthcare providers, and other actions, authorizing the legislature to determine limitations on non-economic damages".

Basically, the purpose is so the Texas legislature can set limits of liability for NON-economic damages (ie, the pain and suffering, etc) in a lawsuit when doctors are being sued. The current plan is to limit these to $250,000 which is still a lot of money. The economic damages can still be computed to whatever they're worth. The significance of this is that it ideally should then be able to lessen the amount of medical malpractice premiums since they've been skyrocketing.

Already, several doctors in the state have stopped practicing especially in underserved areas of the state because of huge jury awards, and the even larger malpractice premiums these cause for all doctors, even those who have not had any claims.

The important thing is to vote in this election; the doctors and others concerned about this urge you to vote YES on the prop. 12, but whatever your opinion, just vote.

Thanks.
