Lake Grapevine runners honored
Club claims awards for newsletter, Hound Dog Hustle T-shirt

Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers president Kelly Richards couldn't be more pleased with the recognition her club has received this year.

Last weekend, the group won best newsletter for a medium-sized club at the Road Runners Club of America convention.

In January, the club was honored with best T-shirt for the design of its Hound Dog Hustle shirt from the third-annual 5K. The traditional droopy hound dog was replaced with a sleeker model the club members dubbed "Miles."

"I could just burst," Richards said. "I feel so amazed because we're just a little club in Grapevine, Texas, but at the same time, I'm not surprised. This is a great club. I know it sounds cheesy, but I feel very lucky to be a part of it."

But the club isn't stopping there. Richards said they expect this season's Hound Dog Hustle, April 26 at Oak Grove Park, to be even better.

Instead of just focusing on the race, which benefits local dog rescue groups, it will be an event for the entire family.

There will be a one-mile fun run for children and a contest to see which school can bring the most runners.

Dog groups will have booths set up, and there will be free hot dogs.

The club also will offer unique prizes, such as a wine-tasting party for the masters group winner.

Richards said the club is asking its members to run in the race, bring someone else to run in the race and to volunteer their services.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m., and races begin at 8 for the children's fun run.

Registration received by Saturday is $15 for adults and $10 for students. Registration received Sunday-April 25 is $17 for adults and $12 for students or $20 for adults and $15 for students the day of the race.

GRAPEVINE SOFTBALL

Registration for the spring softball leagues in Grapevine is April 28 to May 5. Twelve different leagues are offered, costing $170 for the Sunday fun leagues and $300 for the competitive leagues. The season runs from June 1 to Aug. 23.
EULESS SOFTBALL

The city of Euless will host a co-ed softball tournament beginning at 8 a.m. May 4 at Texas Star. Cost will be $150 per team. T-shirts will be awarded to first and second place.
