In June of 2000, you made the comment about never ever doing Buffalo springs 1/2 ironman (Lubbock Texas). The reason were: Too hilly, windy and hot. It is a good thing Hawaii Ironman is not that way. Good luck and congrats on getting in "both of you" It is hard enough getting one person though the lottery, but two is a amazing.

For those that are not aware. There 4 basic ways to get into Hawaii Ironman (World Championships). This race is
best compared to Boston marathon for marathoning. Except
it is much harder to qualify for.

Qualify -- 1500 slots split between age groups, pros and
sexes. There are 24 races in the world in which
you can earn a slot into Hawaii (very difficult)

Lottery -- 200 slots are given to a lottery. You basically
send in your entry form and out of the around
10,000 people they pick around 200 of them.
Once again the odds are against you. 1 out of 500
of a chance.

Ebay -- A few slots are sold on ebay for charity. The
bids start around $10,000.

Essay -- I am not sure on the total slots open, but you
can write a 100 word essay on why you deserve a
Hawaii Ironman Slot.
