[> and Another "Possible" Challenge -- Cable Car Junkie, 16:55:00 08/09/04 Mon

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Charlotte center Martin Iti, who toyed with entering the NBA draft and then considered transferring to another school, said Monday he would return for his sophomore season with the 49ers.

Iti, a 7-foot center from Australia, had declared for the NBA draft and participated in the pre-draft camp in Chicago. He then withdrew from the draft.

He then looked into transferring to a junior college before deciding to return.

"We have a great team at Charlotte and I look forward to a lot of victories with my teammates," he said. "My freshman year was a learning experience and I am ready to contribute more as a sophomore."

Iti was an all-freshman Conference USA selection last season after averaging 6.0 points and 4.7 rebounds. He led the 49ers with 35 blocked shots and 37 dunks while shooting .569 from the floor. He started 23 of 30 games.
