Subject: Steffan Johnson chooses UOP over SCU and USF

Steffan Johnson, a 6-foot-1 senior guard from Kent-Meridian High School, has made a verbal commitment to play basketball at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif.

Johnson, who averaged 17.4 points per game last season, said he chose Pacific over Santa Clara and the University of San Francisco after recent visits to all three.

"I like the coaching staff and the location and the program itself," he said. "And I've gotten to know the players real well."

Johnson said he is happy to have the decision out of the way.

"I just want to be able to enjoy my senior season," he said.

He was a first-team selection in the South Puget Sound League North Division last year for the Royals, who finished 15-8.
