Subject: D-II CalPoly POMONA beats USD .... ooops

Jeff Bonds scored 25 points and David Sybesma added 16 to lead Cal Poly Pomona to a 73-66 upset of San Diego in an exhibition game on Thursday night.

Cal Poly Pomona, an NCAA Division II school, took the lead for good midway through the second half at 51-49 on Sybesma's basket. The Broncos increased their lead to eight with 7:05 left and went on a 10-1 run over a three-minute stretch to take a 71-59 lead with one minute remaining.

Bonds hit 10 of 14 shots overall as Cal Poly Pomona shot 59.3 percent in the second half after leading 34-32 at halftime. Bonds also had eight rebounds and five assists.

The Broncos forced 24 turnovers and won despite being outrebounded 38-30.

Bryce Vounang scored 15 of his team-high 21 points for the Toreros, who are coming off a 4-26 season. Vounang and Brandon Gay each had 10 rebounds.

in the first night of the Coaches vs Cancer "Berkeley regional" the Gaels got by a first half "scare" ( Belmont 30-29 end of 1st half after leading by as much as 8 early on)

Belmont got in foul trouble (29 vs 15 for contest with 2 DQuals)

next for the Galloping Gaellics are the Golden Bears ... and a trip to Madison Sq Garden ...
