With the decent winter conditions we've had over the past couple of days, a few people have been heading out and making the most of it.

Monday saw me, and alumni Al, Dan and Dave up at the red tarn area of Helvellyn, where we had a relaxed day making our way up V-corner III, a short steep icefall on the left porbably made it IV. Later Chris made his way up from the western lakes and also headed up V-corner.

Me and Dan headed out on Tuesday, making the long slog upto Bowfell to do Bowfell Buttress, V 6. After reaching the top we headed over to Angle Tarn to see if the icefalls we're in....and they were!! Looking pretty fat, we could have been climbing in Rjukan! We both soloed up 15-20m of water ice perfection, at about scottish 4. After that on the way back down to the car in Langdale we also spotted another steeper looking 10-15m icefall (~scottish 5) higher up on the right. Dan proceeded to solo this, the end of a pretty sweet day and by far the best day i've had out in the lakes in winter!!

Its true, there's been some great winter conditions - if it survives the thaw over the weekend its definately time to get out.

I was up on the Ben this week, did glovers chinmey - A pretty decent bash at III,4 mixed bridging chockstone pitch.

Then we got benighted in a white out on tower ridge - i promise you, that was considerably less fun!

There was PHAT ice up there too, sadly the top pitch of the curtain is now gone, but theres plenty of good ice on Raeburns wall, and some good pitches to be had in smiths and Point 5. BE excited!
