Date Posted: 10:23:27 12/02/02 Mon This information is for those of you that think the organization is falling apart. Yes some things are not as they should be and need some quick fixing but some things are growing. For example: #1 - This message board that you are using is part of a new web site that was created this year, and I am very glad to see so many people using it. I know that Mike Horowitz put many long hours in to creating it for you, at no cost to our organization. He volunteered his expertise and time to give you a tool to make your lives easier and help keep your fee’s down. #2 - We have a girl’s team again this year. Last year was the first time our organization has had a girl’s team in 4-5 years. This took many hours and a lot of hard work to make happen. I know because I was the one who put this team together and I had to fight a lot of battles to keep us here. The reason I have told you these things is because it takes a lot of people to make an organization like this work. You CAN NOT depend on the board to do it all. -We need people like Mike to come up with and implement these ideas that make us better. -We need people to go to board meetings. -We need people to go to the annual meetings and run for the board or at the least elect board members. -You need to know who your board members are. -You need to know which board members are doing what. Many of our board members have been board members for many years. If you’re unhappy then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! -You see IF YOU KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM and YOU DO NOTHING TO HELP FIX IT, well then YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. I know that many of you are busy, but if each one of us would do one little thing, instead of a few people doing many things, more would get done. Neither Mike nor I are board members. I'll bet none of the people writing these messages are board members. It doesn't take a board member to make something happen. SO GO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I have a suggestion to the board and for members of MHA: -MHA Board, Post your meeting dates on the front page of this new web site and at the rink so people will know when you are meeting. -Members of MHA, please attend meetings from time to time. As a former board member I can tell you NO one comes to the meetings except board members, and NOT ALL of them attend regularly. -Come to meetings so you will KNOW who is not getting the job done, and then you can elect someone else the next year. Right now people are getting elected year after year, some who do very little. This is because no one else either wants to be a board member or the few people coming to vote, who are not already on the board; don’t know who’s not doing their share of the work. We ALL need to attend these board meetings and voice our opinions and suggestions in order to have the positive changes needed. -Many people feel that if you didn’t attend and vote for who you wanted on the board you don’t have a right to complain, so come and vote, it doesn’t take that long. -Remember these people ARE volunteers, they don’t get paid.
