"She was seventeen beauty queen, I met her in a magazine. Heart of fire, love's desire. Reaching out higher, higher." This part in the song reminds me of another song. Every time I try to remember it, I come up with "Jacob's Ladder" by Hewy Lewis & The News. Only that's not it. Would someone please tell me what song I'm trying to think of. (not the beetles or that nasty prince song either).

I was listening to Journey a long time before Steve joined with Neil. I think I still have those big black round things with grooves of those sessions. But they didn't evolve into the supergroup until after Steve & Jonathan joined the group. Steve brought the most to the table with his vocal talent and his lyrics, & Jonathan finished it off.
Now to the facts. Anyone that knows anything about singing will tell you that it's not just the ability to hit notes that makes a singer. It's also the ability to hold those notes and give tone to those notes.
Steve AusJus (a dipping sauce for beef)can hit notes and is good at it, and a recording studio can do wonders to a singers vocal tract to repair lame vocals. When I saw Journey in concert with him, I left wondering what the hell the band was thinking when they hired this guy. Yes he could hit the notes, but his tone and sustaining quality weren't even close.
Steve Perry is the man. FTLOSM is a great recording of soulful, energy charged, flat out rock n roll songs from a SINGER/ songwriter of great talent. Where has Journey been without him? Nowhere. Pawning off some fake Steve Perry wannabe as the real thing. I haven't seen them play since a state fair in 2001.
I would purchase anything new from Steve Perry, especially if it was a new Journey album

Thanks dude! You hit the nail on the head. Im 42 and I Have listened to Journey since they came out.No voice will ever equal Steve Perry. The man has a Passion for pleasure and Journey will never be the same without his radiance. By the way I am A chick too and I have to say Steve Perry has the magnitism to belt out songs that can touch hearts young and old. The band needs Steve Perry for me to listen.

I disagree with the message about regarding the good job the "knockoff" has done with the new Journey. Who could listen to the counterfeit "Journey" with Steve Augieri singing Steve Perry's songs? It's like drinking beer and trying to convince yourself it is a $500 bottle of the most exquisite wine. No, my friends, the X member does not do an even close to good job with the songs. If you like the "poser" concerts or "tribute bands", maybe you can find a "taste" for the replacement, but I find that he leaves a bad taste with me. NO ONE can replace THE VOICE or even come close! If you listen to one of the "real" songs and then to the X version of the song, you'll know without a doubt that Augieri doesn't do any of the songs justice. In the years since Journey moved on without their core essence, people say "Journey? They broke up a long time ago, didn't they?"

This album is clearly a reminder of who made Journey the success it was. Bravo, Bravo. I bow to your legendary excellence Mr. Perry.

The title track to this album was by far the best and sadly overlooked....even on his Greatest Hits CD. It should have been included on it definatly.

"Stand Up Before It's Too Late" gets me every time!! An awesome album from production to grittier soulful and edgier vocals from Steve Perry. Very good cover picture and concept. Steve has a lot to share with the world expressively.

Steve,

Quando encontrei o "For the Love of Strange Medicine" na loja, quase enlouqueci! Isto foi no ano passado. A voz dele é deliciosa e me faz sonhar.

Me gustó. Sony, adelante, !DON'T STOP! !Felicitaciones desde Chile!

I continue to be amazed at the incredable talent diplayed by Steve Augeri as he covers Perry's vocals and continues
as the voice of Journey. GAWD he even looks like a younger version of Steve Perry. I wonder how Steve Perry feels about this and if he ever misses Journey.

I'm sure that Steve Perry does miss Journey. After all, he put his heart and soul into the band in the time that he was their vocalist. One can't spend as much time together as the members of Journey did and not feel like family to one another. They experienced so much together; colossal highs and devastating lows.
I find it interesting that Journey has chosen a man who SOUNDS so much like Steve Perry, and as you have said (although I disagree) LOOKS so much like Steve Perry, hell, his name even rhymes with Steve Perry. Bearing this in mind, I feel a more relavent question is:
Does Journey miss Steve Perry?

Journey will never be the same til they reunite!

Steve Perry’s second (of three) solo albums showcases his ability to rock as hard as he did with Journey but without Neal Schon, which makes For The Love of Strange Medicine a perfect example Perry’s ability to carry his own and demonstrate why Journey could never, and will never, work without his talent.

Track one, “You Better Wait,” by S. Perry, L. Brewster, M. Lucas, J. Pierce and G. Hawkins, has a gruff, yet smooth, vocal intro with cool keyboards by Paul Taylor. I also love the rockin’ backbeat of this tune for an opener. Lincoln Brewster’s guitar work is indescribable. I love the “driving” rhythm.

Track two, “Young Hearts Forever,” by S. Perry and C. Magness, is one of my favorites on this album. I love Taylor’s keyboard intro. I love Brewster’s guitar work here. I like the keyboard and vocals on the bridge before Brewster’s solo.

Track three, “I Am,” by S. Perry, P. Taylor and L. Brewster, is my least favorite on this album. It’s a ballad. Brewster’s guitar is good, and Perry sounds cool, but that’s about it here. I like the drummer’s rim shots though.

Track four, “Stand Up (Before It’s Too Late),” by S. Perry, L. Brewster, P. Taylor, M. Lucas, and J. Kimpel, is my favorite tune on this album. I think that the rhythm is great, Lincoln Brewster’s guitar work is fabulous, and Perry’s vocal is fascinating.

Track five, “For The Love of Strange Medicine,” by S. Perry, P. Taylor, L. Brewster and M. Lucas, is a ballad that has good vocals from Perry, but the rhythm is just ok. It lags. The guitar isn’t bad though. Brewster’s guitar solo is good.

Track six, “Donna Please,” by S. Perry, P. Taylor and S. Bishop, has good piano from Paul Taylor and sweet vocals by Steve Perry. The beginning of the tune is nice before the bridge and a good guitar solo from Lincoln Brewster.

Track seven, “Listen To Your Heart,” by S. Perry, P. Taylor, L. Brewster, and M. Lucas, is one of the best tunes on here. I love Brewster’s guitar work, and Perry’s vocal’s rock. Paul Taylor’s piano work is cool. I love Perry’s “Ohh, oo, ohhs” on this tune.

Track eight, “Tuesday Heartache,” by S. Perry, C. Magness, P. Taylor, L. Brewster, and M. Lucas, is cool. Phil Brown has a good rhythm going on bass guitar, and Steve Perry has good lead vocals. I like the shuffle from drummer, Moyes Lucas and solo from Lincoln Brewster.

Track nine, “Missing You,” by S. Perry and T. Miner, starts out with good vocal harmony and piano. The only other factor that keeps this tune together is Perry’s lead vocal. It’s good.

Track ten, “Somewhere There’s Hope,” by S. Perry, L. Brewster, P. Taylor, and M. Lucas, has a great bluesy feel. I love Lincoln Brewster’s guitar intro and solo. It’s great. Taylor’s piano work is cool, and I love the vocal harmony. Perry’s lead vocal kicks butt too. It’s great.

Track eleven, “Anyway,” by S. Perry and T. Miner, is a beautiful ballad. Taylor’s piano and Perry’s vocals are great, but the most important part of this tune is the message found in the lyrics. It is rumored to be a “lyrical apology” to Neal, Jon, Ross, and Steve (Smith, the drummer for Journey). The vocal harmony and guitar solo are cool, too.

Overall, For The Love of Strange Medicine is a good album. It’s different than “Street Talk.” I think Perry has definitely proved he can hold his own with this album. If, and when, he comes out with another album (if he decides to tour), I’ll be there. What a fabulous record.

I'm not sure about the situation between Steve Perry and Journey. But this I do know.............For The Love of Strange Medicine....Steve's second solo album......is simply a gem of an album. Every track just seems to flow into the next. Everything between Steve's soaring vocals, the string work, Moyes Lucas fantasitic drumming and Lincoln Brewster's guitar---all seem to gel togather on this album. It had been a long time for Steve.....but he came back looking and sounding better than ever. Great singer, great band, great album
