Subject: sustainable agriculture internship 2005

Internship/Apprenticeship Description

We seek two - four interns: to join our three-person team. Interns will assist in and learn about all facets of intensive, sustainable vegetable, herb, and flower production (varied greenhouse and field activities), involving season extension, ridge-till, no-till, and living mulch systems. We focus on soil dynamics through use of chicken tractors, composting, legume cover crops, crop rotation, and companion planting. Pest and pathogen control in the garden is taught through the balance of natural living systems - crop rotation, living mulches, and companion planting. CSA marketing (newsletter and promotional materials), as well as farmers market attendance will sharpen retail and small business skills.

We view interns as critical to our expansion and can provide, in exchange, an in-depth experience of the many growing pains and joys of an intensive, small-scale gardening and farming enterprise. Work experience is preferred.

Work schedule is six days per week with an average of 50-60, hr/wk depending on season. Off-farm housing is provided in the village of Waterford. A stipend of $600/month and access to a weekly harvest are supplied. Additional income will be gained through market commissions.

Thank you
