Looking for information on Peter McShane Johnston/Johnson and Lucy Toman, b. ca. 1825 and 1832, respectively, in County Down. Lucy had a brother Patrick who married the Margaret Magill listed on a memorial to James Magill, d. 31 May 1884, aged 54, in the Loughinisland Graveyard.

Peter and Lucy (Toman) Johnston/Johnson left Ireland after 1850 and spent about 9 years in Durham County, England where Peter was a coal miner. They arrived in the US in 1859 and within a year or two settled in Peoria, Illinois. The first four children were born in England; the last four in Illinois. Peter died in a coal mining accident in January 1867, leaving his wife and 8 children all under 15. By 1870 Patrick Toman and his wife Margaret (Magill) and their daughter Sarah arrived in Peoria to come to Lucy's aid. In 1871 Patrick's wife died, leaving him to raise their daughter.

Patrick was born ca. 1812 and Lucy's age is debateable - she is never born the same year on any census but it averages out to about 1832, making the brother and sister 20 years difference in age. At first I thought Patrick was her father, but found proof in a legal document they were siblings.

Does anyone have any information on a Toman family with a son Patrick and a daughter Lucy born near Loughinisland around those years? A Peter Johnson, b. 1825,probably raised in the same community? Have been working on this family for 20 years with very little luck.
