] Date Posted: 13:56:58 03/18/02 Mon Okay, I know that this is kind of off the subject, but I recently read a book by Michael Crichton called TIMELINE. It was about time-travel, but it had several odd similarities to FLY. 1) The process of time-travel involved stepping into a sort of pod, then being "teleported" to the designated era in time. 2) The original copy of the traveler is destroyed, and then recreated in a different pod (same as the telepods, sort of...) 3) This is the aspect that is the most similar: transcription errors. As is shown in a couple of scary cases, sometimes the time-travelling process messes up the body, creating physical and mental distortions. In one scene, the characters meet a rather ugly cat (monkey-cat scene, anyone?) whose face has been screwed up - also, it is now given to insanely violent tendencies (again, same as the monkey-cat). There is also a human who has experienced this error, and while he isn't quite as grotesque, he is definitely at the insanity level of Brundle when he was in his pre-puppet stage (i.e., going around beating up people and killing at will, etc...) Anyway, enough of my ramblings. I just think that it was weird how TIMELINE kept sounding so much like THE FLY - again, science gone horribly wrong! Post a reply if you've read the book or anything, maybe? [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 14:11:50 03/18/02 Mon Well I've never read the book, but I've often thought how the telepods could be used for Time Travel. SImply by teleporting an object, and programming the computer not to re-generate it for a set period of time. For the object this is instantanious. Pretty interesting. Date Posted: 15:56:37 03/18/02 Mon Well...I never thought of it like that (delaying the reintegrating process for time-travelling purposes). Clever... [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
