Auditions Include:

A prepared solo of any length or style, selected by you. It need not be memorized (this will show your ability to learn music, the quality of your voice, and your musical interpretation).
Pitch memory (to test the ear).
Scales (to test range and breaks).
Sight Singing (a melody without accompaniment, and your part in a chorale or other short piece with our pianist playing the other parts). Facility, rhythmic accuracy and self-correction are the most important qualities.
Singers should have good musical skills and vocal abilities, with some training and some choral experience.

LOS ANGELES -- A series of auditions, beginning October 21 in Detroit, mark the launch of production on the second AMERICAN IDOL. Covering every region of the country, and expected to draw tens of thousands of eager performers, the extensive talent search will find the nation’s most talented musical performers looking for their big break. During the process, the panel of judges will evaluate each individual on talent, ability, look and style.

The nationwide search continues in New York, Atlanta, Nashville, Miami, Austin, and finally Los Angeles. The auditions will be held at 8:00 AM (unless otherwise noted) as follows:

Before auditioning, superstar hopefuls should consider the following (this list is not intended to be the comprehensive list of rules/regulations):


Participants must be legal US residents and eligible to work in the United States.

Participants must be between the ages of 16 and 24 by/on October 19, 2002; those under the age of 18 must be accompanied to the audition by a parent or legal guardian.

Proof of age and a picture ID (eg, a birth certificate and a driver’s license, a passport, etc.) must be presented at the audition.

Participants are ineligible if they already have either talent representation or a recording contract or were among the top 30 finalists of AMERICAN IDOL: THE SEARCH FOR A SUPERSTAR.

Auditioners should be prepared to sing a capella (without music) songs of their choice. One song must be selected from a list that will be provided by audition personnel. The second song, if requested by audition personnel, may be a song of the participant’s choice.

For those selected to continue in the audition process, follow-ups will occur within five days (participants should be prepared to stay in audition city five days following first audition). In addition, participants must be able to come to Los Angeles on the dates required.

Before auditioning, individuals must complete, sign and agree to various required forms. Those selected to continue will have to sign and agree to additional forms. The forms will be available at the audition venues in each city, but are available to print out and review at www.idolonfox.com. Participants under 18 must co-sign each form with a parent or legal guardian.

After premiering on FOX in June of 2002, AMERICAN IDOL: THE SEARCH FOR A SUPERSTAR consistently won its time period among the key demographics of Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens. On Sept. 4, the season finale came to a spectacular end, crowning Kelly Clarkson the first American Idol and attracting almost 23 million viewers. Clarkson's debut RCA Records single “Before Your Love”/”A Moment Like This” jumped from No. 52 to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, making it the largest leap to the No. 1 position in Billboard’s Hot 100 history.

AMERICAN IDOL was created by Simon Fuller. Simon Fuller, 19 Television; Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Executive Vice President, FremantleMedia North America Inc.; and Simon Jones, Commercial Director of FremantleMedia's UK production company, Thames Television are executive producers. Nigel Lythgoe, Chief Executive, 19 Television and Ken Warwick of FremantleMedia will serve as co-executive producers

Louise Reichlin & Dancers is on the Approved Artist Roster for the Kennedy Center, in D.C. and performs in Los Angeles as well as some touring. This summer begins a tour to 6 performing arts centers for Dream Scapes, a project in coordination with Steve Reid's Bamboo Forest. Upcoming performances for The Patchwork Girl of Oz include Cal State Northridge PAC, Myrna Loy Center (Montana), Idaho Falls Arts Council, and the Miles Memorial Playhouse in Santa Monica.

The company, a performing unit of Los Angeles Choreographers & Dancers, was founded by Louise Reichlin in 1979. Local performances have included full concerts at theaters: The Margo Albert at Plaza de la Raza, Palmdale Playhouse, Valley College Little Theatre, Torrance Cultural Arts Center, the Keck Th., the Japan America Th., Coronet Th., Bing Th./USC as well as museums and galleries: The LA County Museum of Art, The OC Museum of Art, and the Brand Art Gallery. Touring has included the AZ Summer Arts Festival, Port Hueneme Cultural Center and several theatres for the Las Vegas Cultural Affairs Division. The company has also created special projects with residency/company performances at 20 schools. Related projects include choreography for a new musical called Caution, Men At Work: TAP that was a project with husband Alfred Desio and herself, a television spot for Turkish Radio Television, and industrials in Connecticut, California, and Taipei.
