When you have braces on your teeth, you are bound to get a lot of irritations inside your mouth. Like you, I'm always looking for ways to make them go away.

I first became aware of Biotene when my mother-in-law's periodontist recommended it to her. She had advanced periodontial disease, and the Biotene was helping to keep infection at bay. It is a strong anti-microbial rinse, but it doesn't sting like Listerene.

Biotene has an added benefit: it helps to soothe and heal mouth irritations. It also claims to help dry mouth syndrome.

I have used Biotene when I have irritations from brackets. Of course, the best thing you can do is gob on a lot of dental wax. But sometimes you need something more, like Oragel. What I like about Biotene is that it helps to heal the mouth sores more quickly. Or at least is SEEMS to. And I like the fact that it kills germs.

The downside: Biotene isn't as great-tasting as Fresh Mint Listerene. It has a peppermint taste, but leaves a bit of a bitter aftertaste in your mouth. It isn't horrible; you get used to it. But there is no Listeren-type "zing." On the other hand, it doesn't burn your mouth tissues, so it's gentler and more pleasant to use in that respect.

I think it's a good product. I keep some around just in case. It's available in many drugstores and online.
