Subject: I've lost my retainers for about half a year!!! ...

... I know they're there after braces to keep your teeth straight. Immediately after I got my retainers last year (it was in March or May 2002, I think), I wore them EVERY day. Now all of a sudden, I just got lazy and forgot to wear them a few times. Maybe it's because I'm forgetting to put them in that carrying case my orthodontist gave me...

And now, I lost them. Both my top retainer and bottom retainer. I think I lost it back in February or March. I think I lost my bottom retainer in one of my pants pockets, but I've checked every pocket in ever pair of pants I own and it's gone. I also lost my top retainer at a restaurant, and I didn't bother to go back and look for it...

I've been retainer-less for about half a year, but I already wore retainers for about a year. Will my teeth still move a LOT? Right now, my teeth LOOk straight, from first glance, but if you were to examine it closely, it might look like it has shifted a little. I also feel around my teeth a bit, and I know I feel that SOME of them moved a bit, but when I look in the mirror, my teeth look TOTALLY straight. I love my smile, still, and isn't that the most imporant thing?

If I DO take the courage to ask my orthodontist for another set of retainers (I'm afraid to, as my parents and my orthodontist will tell me a lecture on responsibility or something like that), I might prevent them from moving...

I still have the 'retainers' information sheet my 'dontist gave to me. I did fulfull at least one requirement - wear them full-time for 12 to 18 months.

So, will my teeth still move? Do I have to have braces again? I *did* wear them full-time for about a year, then lost them, so I don't think they will move *that* much. I'm afraid it will move a little bit, though... and I don't think I have the courage to ask my parents to buy another set of retainers, as they'll probably yell at me or something... and worse - I think I might have to have braces again. I hope not - my teeth look straight, not *so obvious* that its all crooked or anything, despite the fact that I haven't worn them for 6 months...
