I work in a federal Indian Education Program.

Biggest problem - among many it probably is the mixed feelings many Indian People have towards education.
Remember that it was the tool used to try to eradicate our cultures at one time.
Even after that period, many Indian People had such horrible experiences with education that it soured their attitudes.
So, no matter how much many of us say we value education, when the chips are down, we fail to support it.

Combined with this, there is the feeling, perhaps correct in many cases, that Indians who get an education forget that they are Indian - or how to be Indian.

And many schools, especially on the Graduate level, pride themselves how they change their students.

Really tired and in a hurry, hope I am making sense.
