You're right Tash, if you mean he never studied under any zen masters .... as far as I know Rajneesh never became a disciple to anyone during this lifetime [he did claim he had been with many masters in past lives -- hard to verify that tho', lol :o)] .... but it was my understanding that several or many zen temples in Japan these days are using his works, and acknowledge his contributions ??? I do know many zen monks and nuns who came from Japan to Pune to be with him right up till his death .... the last few years of his life his discourses were entirely about zen, one of them was called the Zen Manifesto I think -- have you read any of them ??

About the ranch, have to admit that was a pretty intimidating place when I was there that last summer of '85, but strangely enough he was the only part of it that didn't seem at all fascist or controlling -- I admit the press held him responsible for everything that happened on the Ranch [and around it :o((] but I couldn't buy that .... from what I saw of Sheela she had more than enough drive to think up those schemes all by herself, and he had been "in silence" not speaking in public ever since he arrived in America .... I was there in June/July when he first started his daily discourses again, and Every Word was SOOOO antithetical to everything the Ranch represented that I was relieved that THIS was the man I had come to see, and not the folks running the place :o((( -- those "Book(s) of Rajneeshishism" Sheela had written were burned that first week, and she and her cohorts left without goodbyes very shortly after .... and were eventually arrested and served their time ...

No, I can't see him as the mastermind behind those saladbar poisonings, and never could .... but I know there are those who do ....
