OPK
Last week I responded to a post you wrote about Britain on the Indianz.board and felt bad afterwards about the way I had written in anger, because the comments you wrote in many ways were justified. I am not an apologist for English behaviour, I made that clear. There is no justification for the British attitude of attempting to "Empire-build" through taking land already occupied by others. That is something I have been painfully aware of since childhood. But my answer to you was more hostile than intended, really, I've been feeling very low recently and that has made me inclined to "snap".

I've been looking at this board recently, but sometimes find that it has not been possible to read messages, they wouldn't open. So I only just have caught up with a couple of threads, and this was one of them. You have no doubt mentioned the fact you are part German before, however I had forgotten that until reading your message to Wolfe here, so when responding to you last week at Indianz.com wasn't thinking of that. Because I do not like the anti-German sentiment being stirred up in the UK at the moment, due to this ongoing debate over war with Iraq, I wanted to clarify that. In all honesty I can say that I know concentration camp survivors who do not like the idea that young German people, who were not even alive in the last war, are sometimes made to feel that Germany is still at fault.

My mother was a nurse during the WWII "Blitz" in London, and was bitterly upset by the effects she saw of the bombing, but she is not at all anti German.

I'm not sure how much the comments you wrote about the UK were written as an American Indian thinking of British involvement in the taking of Indian land in America, or as someone part German resenting British anti-German sentiment. I have sympathy for both views. The majority of British people are not anti-German, and many (possibly more than appears obvious) are not sympathetic to the actions of the British Empire either. Because of my early interest in American Indian history, I was particularly horrified by Britain's involvement, and it permanently influenced my view of England.

I'm not posting much at the moment (though that may not be obvious from the length of this post) but felt bad at the way I wrote a message to you and wanted to say so.

Bella
