...used to be that we would gather at either my sister's or mother's house & the women would do the "heavy cooking" while the guys did lightweight stuff like salads or breads. But now that it's always fallen on my sister (who has the biggest house) I've convinced her to cool it on the the big work & just do a buffet...sandwiches, salads, veggies, fruits etc.

two unusual features this year...both my sister and I had our exes along (in both cases the other parent of our children, but still friends). the other was that we 'beat' our 30% percent chance of a non-white chistmas...maybe by new year (which means a big pow wow here)

I always enjoy hearing about your food down there. I spent my 7th and 8th grade years in texas so I didn't get full chance to do the texmex and south of the border stuff, though I enjoyed what I got. I became an adult here in minnesota which at that time didn't have a huge southern population so few southern restaurants...now they're all over...In fact I had a visitor from Sweden not long ago and it was at a Colombian restaurant.
