I don't understand this obscession with either "white looking" or "white."

My mother is white, although not very white looking.

So? Coupla hundred years ago, the fact that my mother was white would make me not Cherokee unless I got adopted into a Clan, because a white mother would have no Clan to give me.

That was a coupla hundred years ago.

Now, the question is "So what?"
