Thanks to you and Tash, I am giving it another day before deciding.

You are both helping me keep my eye on what matters: her comfort, not mine.

She is not crated all the time. There is a family room where both we and the dogs hang out a lot and she's never peed in there.

And when I come to the basement to work, she stays at my feet (she's not here right now because the snow was up to her belly around the house and the stairs are too steep for her). (And don't feel sorry for me because my work space is in the basement. My computer faces a huge window, and there is lots of wildlife in the back yard. When the weather is good, I put the dogs out there to play.)

She is crated to sleep and if we leave the house during the day. Usually, I just clap my hands (she can't hear my voice anymore) and say "Go to bed!" with a gesture toward the crate and she hops right in. She has food and water there. She has peed in it twice. I just wash the bedding and I have a cover under it to protect the floor.

We go for walks twice a day, weather permitting, which is does not today.

So her life is not horrible right now.

Steve
