Hello, my name is Carol. This probably not the right place for me but, I am desperate. I have to give a 10 minute speech, Wednesday, on "The Challenege of Global Capitalism", The World Economy in the 21st Century a book by Robert Gilpin. I am the 2nd person to have to speak on this book. I have read the book about 3 times and it seems to me everything has been covered. If you know of gilpin can you give me your interpretation of his writings. To me he seems to be naive and blind as to what is going on with globalization. I understand he believes there should be free trade and that globalization is a good thing. He believes it should be driven by governments. He says the only thing wrong with it is that there should be some regulation. He also seems to dismiss all its critics, he says thney are exaggerating the problems.

Who does he think should make these regulations?

The governments - who are being controlled by the corporations? Does he not understand that the governments are now under the control of the multinational corporations?
If the governments are to make the rules, especially in the US, does he not realize we would need campaign reforms which the corps would never aloow the legilators to do. They would withdraw their contributions. And the last bill for reforms passed in Buckley v. Veljo, 1976 has made it almost impossible for new reforms because it allowed expenditures (money spent on advertising) to be unlimited based on the 1st amendment.

Does he think the IMF, the WTO and the World Bank should make the rules? Does he not realize these organizations are controlled by the United States, where multinational corps. abound and have the most power?

What would he think of "Imperilism" and "Mercantilism?"

Please email me.

Thank you.

Carol
