When the Brat stepped outside I went as quiet as possible, fading from view into the shadows.

"Jes, if you have someone out here with you, I'm telling Mom."

"Go back to bed, Eleanor..."

"Nuh-uh, and you can't make me."

Right then I began to feel how things had changed. I had made Jay an low-level empath, which was why he loved to revel in destruction and devastation. Most of what he could pick up came from touch and strong surges of emotion, hence the Psi-Corp style gloves he wore. And right then Star was experiencing one of said strong emotional surges.
One of anger.

Then she grabbed the Brat and started dragging her inside.

"MOM! MOM! JESSICA'S KILLING ME! MOOOOOOM!!!"

From my hiding place I had to chuckle...

When the lovely and talented Jes returned, we were ready to go. Then I realized... She couldn't fly... Then I got a demented idea...

And even though I was slightly shorter than her, I scooped her up in my arms and took off. But I couldn't resist making at least one comment...

"'Carry the bride across the threshold?'"
