well i guess in comparison to chaplin films, if you know charlie chaplin well enough, you can point out rather chaplinesque humor throughout the film, little things such as hat tricks etc. but i thought the general humor was much like what chaplin might have done, as well as the story line. roberto said that an inspiration was The Great Dictator, along with other chaplin films, which is obvious in Life is beautiful just by sensing it. ive seen the film twice and thought it was really great. one of the best movies ive ever seen. begnini really did handle it so well, leaving out gory violence or sex scenes like you would find in any typical hollywood film, and which therefore, as usual, makes it a highly overlooked independent film. i think its much like a chaplin film because it brings laughter and, "perhaps a tear" =) much like the kid etc. whoa...anyways ive talked just a tad too much. i highly recommend life is beautiful though!
