Subject: m3 resales

From a guy who's going to pay off a new (02 Passat)daily driver then buy a used SMG in a couple more years, it will be interesting to watch what happens to resale values. A part of me hopes they go down - no ill will to y'all, I'm just on the other side of the equation regardless. But with 100k warranty and a post from a guy that pulled a low 12's et on a reman, BMW saying they're not done-still working the issue, feel pretty safe the engine will be strong, if not protected. I even get the peace of knowing the engine, most likely issue with one driven hard, often, is covered, yet don't have to pay the premium for certified. If you think about why anyone would consider less value for significant engine repair/replacement in the history, what comes to MY mind are: lots of miles, even with new engine, rest of car is significantly worn, eg, engine doesn't match rest of car in longevity/wear; lower miles, I'd be afraid it was abused or uncared for. Lastly, in most major repairs/replacements, there's no 100k mile warranty. Upshot, not sure this situation has the same effect on resale, since one can say, 100% in this time period received extended warranty/has the potential. EG, potential buyer isn't weighing this M3 versus that M3 for this problem-they ALL have the potential (today, w/o true root cause id'd). Probably does limit the folks who would consider one at all, but *I'm* still in the hunt, fwiw.
If I were a betting man, I bet the seasonal fluctuation is more than what this does to resale (M3, Porche, whatever, several $k less used Dec-Feb is what I mean by seasonal).
If I'd have bought new, short of violence, there is no improper response effort, I feel for you. I'll be watching this closely; I do, as a future used buyer, want to see the root cause, hope you guys don't let BMW go until they publish.
