Subject: England's new selector!

We all have to admit it but Jase made a good call on the Pietersen front and I a poor one. Ok his little voice was lost in the general clamour for Pietersen's inclusion, yes his logic was poor and reasoning suspect, fair play his track record on such calls is dodgey and yes its true his tone is grinding, however he was right and for that his mother should be thankful and the rest of us surprised.

However many a time has history pointed out the yokel who made a good call and then began to believe in his own hype. Joan of Arc burned for it and although I would stop short of this for ol' silverback I could be tempted by the gallows.

Take Michael Vaughan for example. Arguably England's greatest, and unarguably one of its most succesful, captains since the war, a man who has a sparkling test record against the Aussies, England's leading batsman several times over the past four years and one of the few individuals the Aussies were genuinely respectful of coming into the series. The pundit's call, drop him!

Admitedly when such a laughable jape was announced via the Spankmiester at Edgbaston on the Saturday afternoon the drink had been flowing, however this didn't prevent a section of the surrounding crowd deriding old MacDonald's view when it was communicated to them.

Strange that only one player from the teams will have scored a ton come the completion of ten innings. I wonder who that may be?
