The apostles preached the first Christian sermon--baptized the first converts etc. The work of the church began on that day. The Catholic Church is very old--and goes back to early centuries-- the same is true of the Orthodox Church. The two split about 1000 yrs ago. Various forms of Protestantism began in the 16 th century--Protestantism began to check abuses in the Catholic Church at that time. People will argue as to what is the true Church--and i will not get into that.
