Subject: pcg-fx240 sony vaio laptop

i own a pcg-fx240 vaio laptop from sony and it has two slots for memory upgrading. i have a 256mb memory card in one slot and nothing in the other one. i recently installed another 256mb memory card and put it in the second slot. a few days ago i started having problems where the laptop would either freeze, shut down or it would not restart. i removed the recently installed 256mb memory and now the laptop works fine. does anyone know what my fix for this can be so i can have more memory.
