Subject: 400sd4 universal power plug fried my gateway

I got one of those universal plugs for my gateway 400sd solo. I used it from N.Carolina to Louisiana, It worked but it kept going on and off. Then it would stay on for awhile then when it would come undone the laptop didn't have a charge. When I got home the laptop would not reboot.
I think the motherboard went out.
I cannot find a replacement motherboard?
Unless the power supply went out and I can find that
