Subject: Laptop does not boot up

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite model 1905-301. I left the laptop downloading a file from the internet. When I came back to the laptop the screen was black but the laptop was on. I thought it was the screen saver on but it was not, so I rebooted the computer. What is happening now is that it reboots, you hear the hard drive functioning for a second then stops and I get the black screen again. I had Norton anti-virus installed and a router to connect to the internet. Could it be a virus? Does any body have any sugestions? I tried to boot up from a floppy. Nothing.
