Subject: Laptop power problems

I have an hp 4427 laptop approx 14 mon old; had power problems that would resemble a short in the adapter or a loose connection between the adapter and laptop. Disassembled laptop and male plug is tight, stripped wire looking for a short did not find one assumed then it must be the connect so ordered a new power cord. No help.

Basically, the computer continually switches back and forth between power and battery until finally computer hibernates because of no power. If I continue to fumble with the cord I can eventually get it to start charging; it may or may not continue to work, it might run a/c it might not; no consistentcy to its madness. Have looked at possible soft issues, updated bios, ran all adware/virus software I have. Really do not know where to look from here. Any opinions welcomed and appreciated.
