Subject: D drive won't open

I have a laptop toshiba 500cdt/1.3. The disk drive will not open. In the device manager it says it is working properly. I am not able to open it from the my computer either. I want to open up the case and see if it has come on plugged, but I do not know how to open the case. There is no disc in the drive, so it is not stuck shut. I have also used a paper clip to open it, and that still does not work. I has window 95 for and OS, and I am not to knowledgeably with that OS. Do you have any solutions or ideas to help me.
