Yes, I also have a Compaq Armada laptop, 1700 model though.

If you have done a fresh install of Windows, you may have deleted their partition.

I belieive that without this partition you can't access the BIOS either. To restore the partition, to to www.compaq.com.au, go to the drivers section and search for your model. I think it is 'computer diagnostics' that you need to get. I don't know for sure because I havn't tested it myself yet.

The Compaq Diagnostics in control panel is a sperate program which also has to be downloaded from their website. The reason is that when you reinstalled Windows, the program was also removed. Reinstalling the Compaq Diagnostics should solve the problem.

Note though that there are two version I believe, one for DOS which creates the partition and possibly alows access to the BIOS and one for Windows which is totally seperate and adds the icon to the Windows control panel.
