Subject: ibm Thinkpad 600E Screen Blanking Problem

I have an ibm Thinkpad 600E which I have been quite pleased with until recently. The battery started to play up and I found it had some dodgy cells. I replaced it with a reconditioned one. Since about the time the battery started to go I've had an intermittent problem with the screen suddemly turning off. I have found I can get it back by holding down the Fn key and hitting F7 2 or 3 times. It then blanks out again or flashes on off for 10 to 20 seconds when it either goes blank again or stays on. This problem is very irregular. I can sometimes go 2/3 days with no problem, or it can carry on blanking on me for up to 20 minutes before I can get it to stay on. I formatted and replaced windows 98 but no better. Any body got any ideas PLEASE ! Jim
