Subject: screen flickering starting on Sony Vaio PCG-FX240

I have the same problem just starting today on a Sony Vaio PCG-FX240. Entire screen flickering is the problem, rebooting sometimes finds it quenched, but sometimes not, as the flickering could still be there again on restart. It is likely hardware from adapter to converters/inverters to graphics card, to cable, bulb, etc., from reading another board. I note that the bottom of the screen is warm also, and that may not be normal. Has anyone a tip or two to diagnose with some reliability? I will find the nearest external viewing source to hook up and test the adapter, but after that, what? Fiddling with position, etc. of the screen and it's integral case housing does not affect the flickering. It starts and stops idiosyncratically.

I'm not interested in expending large quantities of time or cash on fixing (attempting to fix) it, as I have no time for such luxuries as playing EMT on my computer any more, especially a laptop. Oh yes, and I am out of warranty on it, but it's not even 2 years old. Darn this disposable-planned-obsolescence manufacturing and market environment and the greedy and short-sighted demand curve that drives it. I don't want to fill up land fills with equipment which I'd otherwise be happy to work with for years and years.

Thanks for any tips sent to my email above.
