I'm searching for any duets, trios, etc Karen has been part of. So far I've collected songs with John Denver, John Davidson, Ella Fitzgerald (excellent team), some early songs "When I Die" I don't know the accompanying artists name. I've heard there is one with Kristy McNichol and also a song with Suzanne Sommers, does anybody know anything about these?
Did Karen ever do anything with Barry Manilow?

I believe the duets with Suzanne sommers and Kristy McNichols are from one of the Carpenters' christmas specials. The Kristy McNichol tune is called; Chritmas Alphabet. I've recently downloaded Silly Love Songs sung by Ben Vereen, Toni Tennille and Karen Carpenter, this may be another to consider for your collection.

Other Duets or songs performed with others not already mentioned that I am aware of include the following:

"Adeste Fidelis (O Come O Ye Faithful)" with Gene Kelly from Richard & Karens Christmas TV Special of 1978 'Christmas Portrait'

"And When I Die" - Karen much younger perhaps before the Carpenters in the choir

"Angel In The Christmas Play" with Kristy McNichols and Georgia Ingel from Richard & Karens Christmas TV Special of 1978 'Christmas Portrait'

"Fhum Fhum Fhum" with Kristy and Jimmy McNichols from Richard & Karens Christmas Special of 1978 'Christmas Portrait' and a second song sung with Georgia Ingel

"Boogie Nights/I Could have danced all night" with John Davidson, Suzanne Somers & Charlie Callas from Richard & Karens Space Encounters 1978 Tv Special

"Good Vibrations/Coming Through The Rye" with John Denver from The Carpenters First TV Special in 1976

"Magic Moments/Catch A Falling Star/It's Impossible/Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes/Until The End Of Time" with Perry Como from The Perry Como Christmas TV Special in 1974 (Now on the 'As Time Goes By' Album)

"Dance In The Old Fashioned Way" with John Davidson from Richard & Karens Space Encounters 1978 Tv Special

"You're Just In Love" with John Davidson from Richard & Karens Music Music Music Tv Special in 1980

"Don't Get Around Much/I'll Be Seeing You/Someone To Watch Over Me/As Time Goes By/I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart" with Ella Fitzgerald from their 1980 Music Music Music Tv Special (Available on Carpenters 'Essential Collection' & 'As Time Goes By' Album)

"Gonna Cut Away" with John Denver from The Carpenters First TV Special in 1976

"Johnny B Good" & "I Fell In Love", both of which Karen has performed with Doug Strawn, most notably live in concert in 1976

"My New Years Resolution" with Kristi McNichols, Harvey Corman, The Band and puppets Cooper & Ollie from The Carpenters Christmas TV Special of 1977 'Christmas with The Carpenters'

"Big Brothers, Kid Sisters/The Very Best Of Friends" (or it may be called "When They Gonna Grow Up" with Kristi & Jimmy McNichols from Karen & Richards 1978 Christmas Special 'Christmas Portrait'

"Man Smart, Woman Smarter" with Suzanne Sommers from Richard & Karens Space Encounters 1978 Tv Special

"Make Me Laugh" with Dorothy Hammill on her TV Special in 1977

Karen also performed some Christmas songs with Bruce Forsythe on 'The Bruce Forsythe Show' when she guested on his show alone in 1978

"Love Makin Love To You" (From Karens Solo Sessions)apparently includes a guest vocalist but I can't recall his name at the moment. Could be Mike Curb!!!

Richard has of course performed "In Love Alone" with Petula Clark and "Something In Your Eyes" with Dusty Springfield (Both available on his Solo Album 'Time'). I believe a video was also made with Dusty Springfield for that track

I can't think of any more right now but most of the above has yet to be released commercially

I know the duet Karen did with Kristy was a Christmas song from the 1978 special. The title of the song escapes me, but Richard refused to use this song on the resulting album(s) because Karen and Kristy sang on the same track, therefore Kristy cannot be removed. Because Kristy would have been the only guest vocal on any album by the Carpenters, the song would have been out of context. "As Time Goes By" features Karen singing with other artists, there is a restored track from a Perry Como special where Richard takes the lead. Interesting that Karen never lent her voice to any other artist on any label, the Carpenters stayed to themselves. I wish Karen would have duetted with Barry, but she only sat in on his recording sessions for his album "Even Now" which was recorded at A&M studios. Karen also sat in on sessions for Art Garfunkel's album "Breakaway" while she was in New York recording her solo sesssions and for her anorexia treatments. Unfortuntatley she didn't utter a note for Art. Imagine how beautiful a duet between them would have been.

I think it's a shame that the Carpenters kept to themselves so much. Karen would have been great singing with others.

A&M labelmate Toni Tenille ended up doing guest vocals with Elton John on "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" and also on Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album.

Karen & Richard were present during one of Paul McCartney's recording sessions. A duet between Karen and Paul would have been an instant classic.

Now, I didn't know about Paul McCartney, yes a duet between them would have been fun. Paul seems to have the pop sense the Carpenters did. I forgot about Toni's session work, I really wish the Captain and Tennille's whole catalog was as available as the Carpenters.

The Karen and Kristy song is called "The Christmas Alphabet". I remember it being a fun song. That's another I'd like for my collection.
What I'd really like to see is all the Carpenters' ABC television specials released to the general public on video and DVD. I bet they'd sell a few million copies each worldwide. I know I would buy a copy of each one.

Another duet I was recently reminded of is "Heartache Tonight" which was performed by Olivia Newton - John and Karen on Olivia's "Hollywood Nights" television special in 1980.
I would really love to see this special again. I wonder if it's available on video or DVD.

Thank you to all for the good information on Karen duets. I'm very interested in obtaining "Christmas Alphabet" with Kristy McNichol, but I don't seem to be able to find it anywhere. Any suggestions?

Im from the Philippines and the Carpenters were and still regarded as one the most popular foreign artists here. Too bad they never had a chance to have a concert here. Karen did a duet with Suzanne Sommers in their Space Encounters TV special singing Man Smart Women Smarter. I had it in Audio Tape.

Karen was invited and sang a medley of Ticket to Ride-I'll Never Fall In Love Again along with Andy Williams in his tv-show. I have it in mp3 recorded. It was a beautiful team!.

Hello

What a voice Karen had. A voice that is sorely missed. It was near perfection. All of us who loved her want so much more of her.

I am searching for rare performances and duets she had done with other great artists as well. I found your post because I was trying to find out who the woman was who sang the duet, "When I Die" with Karen. Do you know who that was?

Also, I have some rare, well recorded early performances of her, probably done back in the mid 60's.

If you don't have them, I'd like to share them with you, if you'd like. They are of very good Mp3 quality.

If you have any duets or other rarities of her, with the late John Denver and of Andy Williams and others, please if possible can you share them with me?
