The Carpenters have recorded a few songs from the big band era of the 30's and 40's. A few that come to mind are "Goofus", "I Can Dream Can't I" and "What Are You Doin' New Year's Eve". The latter is my favorite of the three. I really love the beautiful waltz rhythm. Karen's voice has a bluesy sound to it. I feel this is one of Karen's very best vocals. The song is endearing from beginning to end.

As I'm typing this I am listening to "Honky Tonk Angel" done by Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette. Each voice is distinctive yet are able to blend to create a sound of beauty. Right now I'm listening to track #3 which is "Silver Threads And Golden Needles", they do a pretty good version of the song.

I just read the Rolling Stone review of the new Steely Dan album. They gave it a lukewarm rating. Regardless I still plan on buying it this week. Steely Dan is a long time favorite. By far my favorite album by them is "Aja". It's an excellent album, every track is great.
