In the liner notes for the album Passage Richard wrote:"I like many kinds of music...",so ¿why he hates the disco music?.
In the pre-carpenters era they did rock, Goodbye To Love has signals of rock.
They were the kings of pop music, but also they did gospel(And When I Die), country music, bossa nova, jazz, blues, recreations of the '40s,'50s and '60s and christmas music, but,¿why they refused to do disco music?.
To be continued....

Karen loved disco. It's obvious from the several disco tracks she did for her solo album. My favorites are the unreleased ones - particularly "Don't Try To Win Me Back Again". But Richard insisted Karen's voice was not meant for disco. I disagree with that statement. I think Karen with the proper direction could have tackled any musical style.

It's obvious that Karen really loved all kind of music.
She deceived to Richard because in the page 245 of the Coleman book, Richard said to Karen the day before she flied to NY: "Just do me one favor. Don't do anything disco". And in the page 273 Richard express "...I strongly believe that she was NEVER meant to do disco". What a frustated Karen must have felt seeing others singers and friends doing disco music and having success: Olivia Newton-John, Barry Manilow, Bee Gees, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross...
In the disco era I remember missing the Carpenters with at least one disco number to probe fortune.
We must to thank Karen because all of us knew ,16 years later, how Karen (not the Carpenters)sound performing disco music. Last night I was in bed, with my walk-man and headphones, and did a re-listen to the Karen solo album. It's entirely a great job from Karen and Ramone, with the same musicals arrangements of the present times.

I still feel that if Karen's solo album were to have been released it would have been a major hit.Songs like "Making Love In The Afternnon", "Guess I Just Lost My Head", "all Because Of You" and "My body Keeps Changing My Mind" would have taken Karen over the top. "Made In America" was a good album - but at that point in time the Carpenters needed to put out something more like Karen's album.

Im glad karen sang disco. richard had pleaded with her, not to do any disco. Karens disco material, especially boogie nights, from the space encounters special was incredible. In this song karen showed, her vocal power. And as far as her solo album. Richard never wanted its release to happen. To bad it was not released right after it was recorded. A least two hits would have surfaced.carlo
