I remember listening to the American Top 40 that week. The fact that Kenny Rogers rejected Karen Carpenter for the First Edition always stuck in my mind. Maybe he felt Karen was too good and would have upstaged him or something.

That audition happened only months before K&R landed their recording contract with A&M records. The audition was to replace vocalist Thelma Camacho (who left the First Edition, she aslo sang with Rogers previously in the New Christie Minstrels). A vocalist named Mary Arnold got the job.

p.s. I also enjoyed reading the new Favorites List. gee, BOAT2SAIL, I feel as if I know you now. Oh wait I do know you. I really like the link to the Stationwagon pictures.
