Subject: When will the Carpenters be inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Author: John W [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 08:10:17 11/28/02 Thu Why haven't the CARPENTERS BEEN INDUCTED TO THE Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Looking at the list of some of the recent inductees, their music doesn't even hold a candle to the Carpenters, and as far as record sales go these other performers aren't even close to having the impact that Karen & Richard had. They were the #1 American group of the 70s selling more records than everyone else, and there arangements were great and Karen Carpenters voice is soul stirring, she is definately one of the greatest natual born singers who has ever recorded. Their music will go on forever and this is proven by their continued record sales of well over 100 million. What other of these new inductees music still sells the way the Carpenters music does. If the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame truly wants to be what their name claims they should recognize who the true innovators of our generations music are not just what they think will pervey the organization as being hip. I myself played in many rock groups in the 60s, 70s, 80, and 90s, in all types of genres of this music form from DooWop,Dance Music (Disco),Folk Rock,Country Rock,Hard Rock,Blues, Heavy Metal and everything in between and let me tell you everyone I ever played with respected the Carpenters talent and musicianship. Even some of the great inductees praised them and listened to their music including: Paul McCartney,The Beach Boys,Les Paul,Dione Warwick,and many others. Maybe the Carpenters are just too talented to be in this Hall Of Fame because they could be great in any music form not just Rock & Roll. Listen to their albums there is everything in their from classical,jazz,folk,country,pop,rock,oldies,standards. Let me ask you this,who else can you think of that can do this and be consistantly good at it besides the Carpenters? If Karen were alive today they would still be making hits. Come on what is it going to take to make this Hall Of Fame see the light, are they going to be inducting people in the future who were inspired and influenced by the Carpenters sound and talent without giving the Carpenters their due. They really have had a huge amount of influence on many people in many genres. People who don't even care for their genre of music like the Carpenters. I wrote songs and sang in an alt-rock group throughout the 80's and 90's I always considered the Carpenters an influence. Does anybody know how to contact the R&R Hall Of Fame? Maybe if enough of us contact them we may be able to convince them.

With Karen's vocals and Richard's arrangements, the Carpenters were the number one singing duo of the 70's. So why haven't they been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It's a travesty! When I think back at some of the recent inductees, that don't even come close to the impact this duo made and the influence they had over the generations of musicians that followed. If there is a way that their fans can get the process in motion, let us know how. I know I am not alone in my opinion that they belong there!
