Yes. In my case, back in early 1973, I remember I would listen a radio program of pop music everyday, and then, the DJ played A Song For You daily.
I disliked this song, not the singer, and skipped the program for 3 or 4 minutes.
But, several months later, I was knock out by Yesterday Once More, and from that moment,I am a Carpenters die fan.

There are and have been so many many wonderful singers out there like Norah Jones, Patsy Cline, Gladys Knight, Dusty Springfield, Whitney Houston, and Connie Francis. But Karen Carpenter (maybe I'm biased) seems to have a little something extra. I'm not sure what it is. It's something otherworldly. She's more than just a great singer - she's gifted.
I'd have to say my favorite quality in her voice (and there are many) is how she can sing in her lowest voice and than all the same breath go in to her angelic higher alto voice. That is amazing how she could do this so naturally. I've never heard anyone else accomplish this as she did.
