Albacore Fishing 30 July Tide Change:

If you didn't find out yet, the fishing slowed down a little this week. This made it a little more challenging to get bit. The Badfish Crew all got down to Point Loma ok and started filling the boat with gear. Judging from the counts the previous day, we all knew it wasnt going to be easy. I dont think any of us anticipated waking up to the sea conditions that we had. This was a 10 year worse conditions that this boy has encountered. but the wind was light enough that you could still fish pretty effectively.

The morning bite only came on trolled jigs and slide rubber. No bait biters...none! Until Brandon come out with his secret...the sliding sinker.....whooooooooo. Brandon got bit using about 1/4 oz of lead, and so did I. My first bait fish was a 20# Bluefin as it turned out. We had an OK bait bite after we broke the ice. No wide open carnage on this trip. I think at one point we had around 10 fish in the fish box and red decks all around. So we got what we came for. A little more challenging than we hoped. I think everyone who fished got a fish. Yea, a few ended up in the bunks all day when the fish were biting. The JP went to Karl Salinas and Ron Higgins who tied on 27# Albacore's. I guess that chicken around the neck thing works Karl.

The group was great! First time charter for our group "Badfish". One guy came down from Oakland for the trip. He was rewarded with I think 3 fish. Good job David!. Board regulars included JAkuHead, Spaz, Nomofetas, DanD, BadKarma and yours truely Fair Warning.

So if you are thinking of going and looking at the counts drop....the message is, the fishing is really kinda average from my experiences. And limits can definitely be had if you really know what you are doing and fish hard. I would say that we all had plenty of chances. So go get em!

Final Count...Tide Change 30 July 18 Anglers and 1 chicken
34 Albacore
6 Bluefin

And one more thing.....Regular Mustad Live Bait Hooks won out circle hooks 4 to 1.
