Subject: PFMC Rockfish Recommendations for the F&G Commission

I had a conversation with Jim Glock, groundfish guy at
NMFS on Portland. Here are their recommendations,
which F&G will probably adopt. It's almost the same as
what they already proposed but the location of the seasonal closure is different.

Bag limit: 10, all rockfish, lings, sculpin etc.
Lings: 26", 2/day
Cabezon: 14"
Other sculpin: 10"
Canary: 3/day
Bocaccio: 10", 3/day
Cowcod: 1 per person/day, 2 per boat/day
Greenling: 12"
Three hooks max
Closure, Jan-Feb south of 36 parallel (Lopez Pt)
Closure, Mar-Apr, north of 36 parallel (Lopez Pt), to Cape Mendocino.
No seasons north of Cape Mendocino.

The PFMC will have this posted on their site next
week. I will let everyone know if F&G will concur with this.
Any errors may be due to my own misunderstanding of what Jim Glock told me.
We need a quicker communication from these bodies on
their decisions for those that can't go to all the
mtgs. This is a poor way to let you all know, but it will have to do for now.
One last detail:
Open entry comm'l ground fish allocation will go down to
550lbs for every TWO months, starting in Jan. This
does two things, it screws the more sustainable
vertical line comm'l fishermen more than the
trawlers. And it gives an incentive for the stick gear,
longline and trap fishers to stay inshore because they use less gas and make more per pound. So the nearshore is still in danger, despite the lower allocation!
