I just bought a 50 hp blue band mercury, 4 cylinder (in line) mid 70's model I think. When the motor turns when I try to start it, the motor always locks in the same position. The motor looking at the flywheel movement does a full turn (360 degrees)and then keeps locking in the same position. I have taken out the spark plugs and just done a visual inspection from the outside and the pistons do move backwards and forwards in the bore.Do you think there is internal damage in the powerhead or could it be something related to the gearbox? I have tested the gearbox positions neutral, forward and reverse gears with the propellor movement when in each position and the gears seem fine.
