Duh? 99.9% of girls in pageants are vain and materialistic in one way or another. anyone who argues against that has their head on the wrong way. it is practically a prerequisite to be in a beauty pageant. even sweet tiffany lam has her fake side too, i'm sure. think about it, tiffany comes from a well to do family who owns a seafood restaurant in san jose, california (i've been there), now what would prompt a young girl attending university to enter a beauty pageant. the ambition or passion to do such a thing has to come from the person. i do not dicredit charmaine for her honest opinion on kim/rachel. charmaine has had encounters with rachel and she is entitled to her opinion. if rachel goes on to be a lawyer, which was declared as her aspiration in the competition, then i would say that she is intelligent (academically speaking), but if she like many others before her, uses her crown to gain access into show business, then she is like the rest of them.
don't get me wrong, i love watching beauty pageants and i don't think they degrade women, plus it's great entertainment but i would not be fooled for a second that each of them has their own agenda.
sinner, don't chastise charmaine for not writing a nice comment. your reply was rude in and of itself.
