I am in mourning, primarily over the loss of those courageous people and the grief of their families and friends and co-workers, but also for the loss of an object that meant so much for the history of space travel and my own. I still remember following Columbia's maiden voyage with my grandmother, who was delighted at the beauty of this new world that offered such a wonderful new frontier. God bless those men and women from all the world who had and still have the courage to risk all to explore it. For me, Columbia will always be there in a special place of my mind with her last crew, gliding effortlessly to the runway ground without a shiver, like that first time.
